Swim Meet 101

Below are some tips for families that are new to summer swim team as well as information for volunteering.

  1. Basics of a swim meet
    1. Events are separated by age groups and gender:
      1. 8 & under
      2. 9-10
      3. 11-12
      4. 13-14
      5. open (15-19)
    2. Each swimmer will sign up for events or coach will assign events prior to the start of the meet
    3. Each swimmer can enter up to 4 events per meet (any combination of individual or relay events)
    4. Parents should help their swimmer keep track of the events for which they are entered. There will be a line up area (with the help of a parent volunteer) that will help the swimmers be prepared behind their lane prior to their event
  2. Timeline of events
    1. Meets will start at 8AM
    2. The order of events will be the same for each meet. Each event starts with the youngest age group first

      2. 100M medley relay (age groups 9 and up)

      8. 50M breaststoke (11-12, 13-14, and open)

  3. Parent Volunteer Information

Parent participation is essential for running a swim meet. There will be a sign up sheet for various volunteer postions prior to each meet. Below is a list of some of these positions. There are also essential roles for the team that are required by the league. This includes two stroke and turn judges and a technical representative (managing team website and inputting times/results during the meet). Please contact the team representative if you are interested.
